Ideas For Your Garden This Winter

Your Summer garden starts now! Don't forget all the exciting & important winter tasks, here's a reminder that'll plant some ideas (pun intended) in your mind this Winter.

Below is all the idea to consider between November - February

Winter is the best time for making changes across your garden, whether that be in Planting, Clearing, Fencing or any other big shift. This is because for many plants the energy is stored in the roots so many plants will be smaller (if they lose leaves or flowers over Winter), they'll be more forgiving moving around & watering them as the weather is cooler & wetter. Plus, because of the wet conditions you'll have a much easier time looking after them once they're in the ground.

Repairs & Replacements

Unfortunately this is the time of year that tests the strength of our fences - if you have any repairs do get in touch asap to avoid it becoming a more expensive problems. If you need a replacement, let's get that sorted for you while your plants are dormant & we can walk around them while it'll be minimal disturbance to them.

Tree Planting

It you have any grand plans for new trees in your garden for next Spring/Summer (you're welocme if we've now got you thnking about it) you want to get them planted in the winter while their energy is stored in the roots- this is when it's safest to transport them & move them around as it will minimise damage to the tree.

If you have any questions over what would work in your garden please get in touch, planting trees is one of our favourite things to do!

Fruit Tree Pruning

Fruit trees need to be pruned in the end of Winter, January/February. that is when their energy is dormant. We recommend a 3 year cycle, lightly pruning for 2 years, then on the 3rd giving a heavier prune for estbalished fruit trees. Although, this could change subject to your plans for the trees growth, how it fruits & its growing conditions. Plkease get in touch to discuss & work out the best care for your fruit trees.

Plant Planning

Simialr to tree planting, for a lot of plants the best time for them to go in the ground is when their energy is in the roots so they can be moved around easier & there's less strees on them being out the ground meaning there's more time to get them planted & you'll be under less pressure to water them every day (opposed to summer when they'll give up on life if you forget to water them once!). If you get in touch over winter it gives us time to get the plan together, get materials in your garden & all planted before they start to bloom in the Spring. Get in touch with your planting ideas - we'd love to bring them to life.

Clearances

You may start noticing a theme through these ideas, but Clearances are great for Winter because the growth is dormant. also, once your Clearance is complete it'll give you plenty of time to work out what you're going to do next & give you time to get planting or working before anything starts coming back.

If you wait till after Winter you'll be under pressure to get plants in the ground quickly & you may find the area cleared will soon be growing back once the weather warms.
